Need
Due to the nature of SIFE being offered as a 60-point  alternative to co-op paper or on a volunteer-basis, there is a growing need to recruit students from their early stages of study, and from all faculties of AUT University.

Objective
To ensure long-term sustainability of SIFE AUT and projects, and to expand the diversity of the knowledge and skills possessed by SIFE AUT members.

Project Description
SIFE AUT developed a strategic plan and the following deliverables to address the issue of recruiting students for the long-term:

  • Facebook page
  • Twitter account
  • Marketing material including a new brochure and a bookmark
  • A new website has also been created with updated information
  • Video which was played on plasma televisions in the AUT Business building
  • SIFE AUT members executed brief presentations to classes throughout AUT faculties.

Impact

  • Larger projects
  • Survival of SIFE AUT
  • Increased awareness of SIFE within the AUT community
  • More diversity of talent within SIFE AUT including members joining from faculties other than business
  • A greater number of students applied for SIFE as a paper. As a result, interviews were reinstated in 2010 in an effort to make SIFE for selective students; ensuring the quality of the projects.

Sustainability
It was found that word of mouth was the key reason that current members joined SIFE therefore going forward, it is these students that are the strongest marketing and recruiting tool. SIFE AUT members are being encouraged to talk about SIFE in their workplace, to their friends, to their classmates so that they incite enough curiosity for people to pursue information about SIFE. More information sessions are planned to go ahead this year in all of AUT’s different disclipinary areas.
